Most of us have heard the phrase, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” without taking time to think about the amazing health benefits of lemons.
Acid is the reason lemon juice burns if it gets into your eye. Lemons are an excellent source of acid, and provide great wellness benefits. Here are just a few:
Digestion: antibacterial, natural laxative properties
Skin: exfoliant (lemon juice, milk, and brandy works great)
Health: loaded with antioxidant Vitamin C
Hydration: source of electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, potassium)
Flavonoids: boost blood flow, lower imflamation
pH level: acidic to taste, but alkaline-forming in your body
Wash lemons well, and then place them in the fridge and freezer. Enjoy eating the pulp and drinking the juice of fresh lemons. Add a slice or two to your water. Once frozen, you can grate the entire lemon, peel and all. The peel contains huge amounts of all the best, along with the rest. Try sprinkling this zest onto your veggies, pasta, or fish. Make yummy sorbets to enjoy.
This week, pucker up as you enjoy lemons! And while you are all puckered up, give a kiss or two to those you love most. What a way to add a real zip to your days.
