Tick Time

Debra’s Wellness Tips

Every year this time I write a tip about ticks. I am a big fan of nature, and there are some things you can do to make sure you have a safe and happy time outdoors.

Summing things up, ticks carry diseases. Best to wear long pants, tuck in your shirt, and take wise precautions. Three of my past tick tips are “Neem,” “Get Outside,” and “Tick Savvy.” Take a quick look back at those now.

This year, I am also suggesting you take look online for facts and myths about ticks. I appreciated the information in the Prevention post, but the popups were very annoying.

Fewer than half of people who’ve been infected with Lyme show the “bull’s-eye rash” that was once thought to be a telltale sign of the disease. If you start showing flulike symptoms in the middle of summer (fever, chills, aches, and pains are common symptoms of a variety of tick-borne diseases), go to the doctor and ask to be tested for the illnesses associated with ticks.

This week, start a good habit. Do the things you need to do to be healthier, happier, and safer. You will be glad you did!
