I often have the opportunity to share with others those things that have worked for me, so this tip includes some of my favorite things. They are all inexpensive, and might make great gifts if you are looking for something to give that is healthful. At the top of the list: Elaine Petrone’s Miracle Balls. Like many of us, Petrone turned her own struggles into a mission to help others. Mine go with me in the car, on airplanes, and are on my desk chair right now. You do not have to take my word for it, here is an add from Google:
The Miracle Ball Method, a healing kit containing two miracle balls and a fully illustrated book, come all packaged together in an attention-getting clear plastic cylinder. The work itself is simple. Take a sore back: By resting your aching back on the grapefruit-sized balls and letting your body sink into them, you’re unworking the muscles that hurt. Pain and tension drain out of the body. Petrone shows how proper breathing (which she demonstrates) works in conjunction with a range of unexercises that call for placing the balls under the back, head, knees, hip, elbow-wherever there’s pain-and then resting, rolling, or rotating on them. She points out that relief can come in surprising ways: Lower back pain may be helped by placing the ball under your neck, or a bad knee might be helped by hip work. It’s a revolutionary program of relief, from head to toe.
You can destress your whole body as you relax from head to toe just by massaging your head with the soft-tipped stainless-steel tips of a Kikkerland type head massager. If I only had one word to describe it, my word would be ahhhhhh….
Bach brand Rescue® Remedy is formulated to alleviate every day tensions of body or mind, especially added stresses such as when you are giving an important speech, dealing with a challenging travel schedule, or handling unexpected demands. It comes in a small bottle with a dropper to fit conveniently in a purse, briefcase, or drawer. Just a few drops under the tongue does the trick for me, and there is even an alcohol free kids formula.
Debra’s Wellness Tips have often mentioned the many benefits of ginger (See“Divine Spark in Ginger” on 28 February 2011), and you can really appreciate this handy version: Ginger Chews. In my life, they have been used to nip a headache in the bud, tame a growling stomach, and alleviate motion sickness.
Wrap your mind around all these, and wrap your body in a sarong. I have a variety of colors and patterns, and I always travel with one rolled up and tucked in my purse or backpack. Made of natural fabrics (batik or rayon), they roll up compactly, they are lightweight, and they are just perfect if the room is cool or you want to just give yourself a bit of extra comfort.
This week, explore some of these options or find other ways of being gentle and nurturing with yourself and those in your world. Good health includes body, mind, and spirit, and the more practical you can be with all this the better!
