It used to be radical to expect people to shed their shoes when entering a home. Putting a “Thank you for removing your shoes” sign on my door in the 1970’s generated quite the gamut of reactions.
In Scientists Discover Why You Should Take Your Shoes Off Before Entering Your Home we read how really nasty bacteria can get carried into your home on the bottoms of your shoes. Escherichia coli (abbreviated as E. coli) are bacteria found in the environment, foods, and intestines of people and animals. Clostridium difficile (klos-TRID-e-um dif-uh-SEEL), often called C. difficile or C. diff, is a bacterium that can cause symptoms ranging from diarrhea to life-threatening inflammation of the colon. Both are something you would rather not have.
This week, leave your shoes at the door, put on your slippers, and kick back and relax. You just might be doing something great for your health.
