Presupposing Positive Outcomes

Every sentence presupposes a point of view or perceptual frame. Because presuppositions are less likely to be challenged than direct statements, you can use them wisely to make sure that what you are presupposing for your patients or clients leads to a positive outcome.

Negative: You wouldn’t want to try this approach, would you?

Positive: When you try this approach, you can expect good results in 30 days.

To increase the effectiveness of what you are presupposing, get really familiar with presuppositions and then stack several presuppositions in a sentence emphasizing a positive outcome.

Stacked: As you think about the changes you would like to make now, consider the various ways you can use the changes we have discussed to enhance the quality of your life in the days and weeks to come.

Stacked: Because this is not the first time you have been ill, your body already knows how to heal. Just as once you ride a bike your body remembers how, recovering quickly can be seen as natural and expected. What do you think you will do with all the time and money you had been spending on treatments?

Think about the problems your patients or clients present with regularity, and plan—and practice—the possible presuppositions you can use to facilitate increased health and well-being so that when you are speaking to them, you will say the right thing automatically. It is so much fun when you really can hear what is being said from the perspective of the unconscious mind, and you recognize the benefits.
