Most of us have probably all been at a restaurant where portion size was actually embarrassing. I remember my niece’s saying she was not very hungry so she just ordered a hot dog and fries. When her meal was delivered, it was a whopping one-pound hot dog and enough fries for six people.
Yes, portion size has increased, but so has dishware size, and the correlation is worthy of noting: even a small increase in dishware size can lead to a substantial increase in calories available to be consumed, particularly if food is calorie dense.
Calories are everywhere, even more so at this time of year. Fortunately, research proves you control calorie intake and maintain (or regain) a healthy weight by using smaller plates.
This week, get into the habit of selecting smaller plates. As Eckhart Tolle says, “All problems are illusions of the mind.”
