Memorial Day is a day set aside to remember those who died in active military service. It was traditionally observed on May 30, but now the official observation is on the last Monday in May.
Memorial Day picnics are notoriously calorie laden, with hamburgers and hotdogs and potato chips. If you would appreciate some delicious alternatives, heat up the grill!
Try Cholle’s grilled portobello sandwiches seasoned with garlic, thyme, balsamic vinegar, and capers. For even lighter fair, serve them on flat bread rather than buns. (See “All Recipes”)
Grilled pineapple makes a perfect healthy desert!
A bit of trivia is that in southern states a Confederate Memorial Day is sometimes observed, usually on the fourth Monday in April.
This week, reflect on the sacrifices other make for you, not just our active military. Every day many others contribute to your life in a multitude of ways. When you are able to recognize some of those who provide you support, say thank you!
