It might come as a surprise to you that May 1, 2016, is “International Workers Day,” a national public holiday in many countries, given that the U.S. celebrates labor day on the first Monday in September.
It has been celebrated since established on May 4, 1886, originating in the labor movement asking for an eight-hour work day so you can enjoy eight hours for work, eight hours for recreation, and eight hours for rest.
Reminds me of number 11 in the list of “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” by Robert Fulghum. It comes right before “Take a nap every afternoon.”
11. Live a balanced life—learn some and drink some and draw some and paint some and sing and dance and play and work everyday some.
This week, notice anywhere your life can benefit from more balance. And if you really want a treat pay close attention to number 14, too: “Be aware of wonder. Remember the little seed in the Stryrofoam cup: The roots go down and the plant goes up and nobody really knows how or why, but we are all like that.”
