Hopscotch

Do you remember having played games like kick-the-can or Mother-May-I or hopscotch? Although somewhere between childhood and adulthood, many people gave up games, there are actual health benefits to playing games!

According to “How to Play and Boost Creativity” (HelpGuide.org), here are a few of the reasons it is healthy for us to play:

  • to learn
  • to create
  • to feel challenged
  • to pass time
  • to calm and focus ourselves
  • as spectators watching others
  • competitively to win
  • cooperatively
  • for the fun of it
  • for the joy of it

Research has long shown that individuals who enjoy greater connections are happier and healthier than individuals who are socially isolated. For sure, play connects us to others.

This week, grab a piece of chalk and draw hopscotch on the sidewalk outside your home or workplace. If you don’t have any chalk, use masking tape to mark off the squares. Drop a stone in box one, and wake up your inner child while inviting others to do the same!
