Healing with Color

Everyone is affected by color. We use color metaphorically to speak about our emotions. Someone might be feeling blue. Life might be rosy. Especially if you are indoors much of your day—affected by artificial lighting—perhaps you can improve your mood (and your health) by being intentional about healing with color.

Research has shown that color does affect our physical body. Our bodies are made up of energy. The essential nature of energy is light. Light consists of both a visible and an invisible spectrum. Therefore, we are affected by both seen and unseen color.

Every creature is engulfed in light that affects its health conditions (2). The human body, according to the doctrine of chromotherapy, is basically composed of colors. The body comes into existence from colors, the body is stimulated by colors and colors are responsible for the correct working of various systems that function in the body. All organs and limbs of the body have their own distinct color (3). All organs, cells and atoms exist as energy, and each form has its frequency or vibrational energy. Each of our organs and energy centers vibrates and harmonizes with the frequencies of these colors.

color heals

With or without the scientific evidence, you may want to experiment a bit on your own. Just close your eyes and notice what color is in your inner landscape. Imagine you can breathe that color in and observe where you can feel it in your body. If you are experiencing discomfort, imagine asking what color would feel better. Breathe that color in as you imagine watching the painful color drain away and be replaced by a better feeling.

When you choose your clothing for the day, take a moment to imagine you can ask your body what color it would like to wear. Throughout the day, pay attention to the way your cells dance with that color.

Choose to have items in your environment that are colors you can enjoy. A purple pen. Pink sticky notes. A yellow tea cup. Choose rainbow designs to bring forth a bit of everything good about color. Notice how different colors blend to make even more wonderful colors: blue and pink blending to create violet.

This week, pay attention to the way colors affect your emotional and your physical body. Use your imagination. Using your imagination can be great fun, and color (visible and invisible) is very healing!
