Most of us are not going to encounter a vampire any time soon, but just in case, you might want to make sure your diet includes garlic. Actually, you may choose garlic for its cancer-prevention properties, too.
Research has shown an association between increased intake of garlic and reduced risk of certain cancers, including cancers of the stomach, colon, esophagus, pancreas, and breast. It is the chemical allicin in garlic that give garlic it’s very strong smell, and it can be an aversion to mosquitoes as well as to cancer.
Protective effects from garlic may arise from its antibacterial properties (17) or from its ability to block the formation of cancer-causing substances (18), halt the activation of cancer-causing substances (19), enhance DNA repair (20), reduce cell proliferation, or induce cell death (10).
I happen to love garlic. Even if it did not keep away vampires and prevent cancer, I would eat it. The material I was reading recently suggests to let the garlic “sit” for about ten minutes after it is crushed to get the greatest benefits. This is thought to be especially true if you will cook it at high temperatures.
This week, let negative thoughts and garlic “sit” for about ten minutes. You love it when you can get the most out of what you do, don’t you….
