Double Your Impact

Repeating words with only a slight variation increases the influence they have on your listeners. The technique is known as “pivot language” because the repeated words or phrases are pivoted—the word or phrase used first becomes the word or phrase used next.

Consider the following:

Along with your  decision to make healthier choices, comes change. Change comes much more quickly and easily because you recognize the benefits of those healthier choices. As you recognize the benefits, you continue choosing wisely, wisely choosing still healthier foods, behaviors, and attitudes. Attitudes and behaviors become habits of your making healthier choices.

While the above paragraph may be exaggerated (a few too many repetitions in a bit too brief a time) for your easy in recognizing the patterns of pivot language,  you can certainly see how quickly and easily you can use pivot language to double the impact of what you are saying. Saying just the right things in the right ways allows you to help your patients and clients do more of the right things more of the time.
