Don't be SAD

Debra’s Wellness Tips

Today is Valentine’s Day—a day about feeling love, yet, for many in the Northern hemisphere, February is the month people are prone to seasonal affective disorder (SAD).

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is no joke. It not only affects our moods: it also affects our appetite (increased carb cravings); our libido (lower romantic impulse); our weight (slower metabolism); and our sense of overall well-being. The nutrients and energy we receive from the sun get depleted quickly (within 48 hours), therefore our bodies need an hour or two of sunlight each day, and the cloudy skies and cool temps begin to take a toll.

According to Women’s Health Expert, Visionary Health Pioneer, Wellness Speaker, and New York Times Best-Selling Author, Dr. Christiane Northrup, here are some easy life-style changes to help prevent SAD, including:

Take a multivitamin with minerals every day.

Supplement your diet with vitamin D.

Get adequate essential fatty acids from salmon or flax seed.

    Eliminate refined foods.

Enjoy a 20-minute aerobic workout a few times each week.

This week, notice how many of the things that you do to prevent a specific difficulty are generally good for you!
