While you are still likely to enjoy optimal health by eating more vegetables and fruits, and less saturated fats, we are soon to start hearing the way we have been told to think about cholesterol in food may have not been accurate. A recent CBS news article, states that the USDA and Department of Health and Human Services will be releasing an updated dietary guideline by the end of this year.
One piece of information about cholesterol that is not likely to change is the medical understanding of how ongoing stress increases fatty particles in our bloodstream.
That’s right: Your manic Mondays, traumatic Tuesdays, and wound-up Wednesdays might be boosting the levels of tiny fat particles in your bloodstream. That’s because during stressful times, chemical messengers are released that prepare your body for the fight-or-flight response. These hormonal changes can raise your total cholesterol. This week, make good food choices, but also notice how you are feeding your mind and emotions. Commit to make yoga, meditation, bodywork, Emotional Freedom Technique (tapping), or other practices of self-nurturing part of your daily life. Rather than just being less fat, you are truly fit—physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
