People often wonder about the benefits of biking or running. I am NOT a runner, never have been, but I love biking and walking.
Total calories burned during exercise depends more on the level of intensity of the workout and the time spent in the activity, but generally the more muscles you use, the more calories you will burn. That means running will likely burn more calories than biking.
The other factor, however, is that cycling tends to be easier on the body than weight-bearing exercise, and you can usually ride longer and faster than you can run.
In terms of cardiovascular (cardio) health, both running and cycling are equally beneficial.
Aerobic activities help strengthen your heart so that it can pump more oxygen in your body. Doing cardio exercise, such as running and biking, teaches your heart to pump even more efficiently the rest of the time.

It has been said the best exercise is the one you do.
This week, if the weather is not conducive to outdoor activity, go to the gym. One advantage of walking on a treadmill or riding on a stationary bike is you can read a good book at the same time. Benefit your body and your mind!
