Almonds

Do you know what tree native to the Middle East and South Asia has a fruit by the same name? The almond is a species of tree that is actually a member of the peach family. It is also one of the lowest calorie nuts and it is loaded with nutritional benefits.

Almonds have been proven excellent for heart health. There are only 69 calories in 10 almonds, and they contain a host of anti-oxidants, vitamins, and minerals.

See http://healthyeating.sfgate.com/benefits-eating-almonds-daily-5007.html for almond facts!

Eat a handful of almonds as a snack.

Use almond meal as a healthy coating for fish.

Check out rosemary as a seasoning for roasted almonds.

Make your own almond milk using a food processor. All you need are almonds, some water, and a healthy sweetener.

For optimal value, use raw (they are not actually raw so be sure you know the process of pasteurization used) or choose dry roasted. Some say eating them each day keeps illness away.

Almonds are high in soluble dietary fiber. In What Are the Benefits of Eating Almonds Daily? Alissa Fleck says the soluble fiber almonds may also promote gastrointestinal health and even combat diabetes. I heard a functional medicine doctor say that health begins in the gut, and illness begins in the gut.

By eating almonds you can feed the good bacteria in your gut.

This week, make it a practice to recognize the amazing nutritional benefits that exist in the most natural of foods. Make it a priority to develop and maintain good gut health. I have a gut feeling that is a very good thing!
