Over 2 million views of the story of Elizabeth Vargas life with alcohol abuse indicates we have a problem. On at least one occasion, she had a lethal blood alcohol level. That did not get her to stop drinking.
It is estimated that 88,000 people die from alcohol-related causes every year, making alcohol the third leading preventable cause of death in the United States.
A search for any of the key terms: alcoholism, alcohol use disorder AUD, excessive drinking, drunk will connect you to staggering (please pardon the pun) statistics.
Why is something so destructive still seen as socially acceptable?
One website articulated it well: Remember when we debunked the myth that caffeine was indeed a drug? Well, it’s time now to do the same for alcohol.
This week, question everything. We have been adversely influenced by values we likely do not even share. Be willing to stand alone as you stand up for a healthier culture.
