During times of seasonal illness (cold and flu season), it is wise for us to create a culture that expects folks with a bug to stay home and take good care of themselves, and return to work and school and the gym once they are recovered.
Natural treatment of colds and flu include:
-
Get plenty of rest (Sleep with an extra pillow to lessen drainage.)
Drink warm liquids (Raspberry tea, lemon, and local honey is one of my favorites!)
Wash your hands frequently
Blow your nose often (Blow only one nostril at a time, softy, then wash your hands.)
Gargle frequently
Prevention includes some of those same practices, such as sipping hot tea with lemon and honey! Breathing in the steam helps the hair follicles filter out germs, lemon thins mucus, and honey has antibacterial properties. (See: 20 Surprising Ways to Prevent Colds and Flu.)
This week, start practicing prevention, and encourage family, friends, and co-workers to do that, too. Make the motto for colds or flu: Stay home and take care of me and you!
