Sandal Season

Summer is sandal season for women, men, and children, but there are some helpful tips for healthy summer feet.

  • Keep your heels moist by using an exfoliating moisturizer every day.

  • While showering, use a pumice stone on your feet once or twice a week. For best results, rub only in one direction.

  • Limit your time in flip flops to a few hours rather than all day to help avoid stress fractures or tendonitis.

  • Use a pair of good-supporting slippers in the house, and to avoid fungus and germs save bare-footing for your own turf.

  • Brew a cup of black tea, let it cool, then soak your feet for half hour. The tannins in the tea can decrease sweat production.

  • To guarantee you always enjoy a safe salon pedicure, bring in your own tools.

Make a homemade sugar scrub and enjoy the luxury of feel-good feet all summer. Check out Wellnessmama for some yummy variations on the basic recipe: ½ cup sugar (white sugar or brown sugar); ¼ cup oil (olive or coconut are great); optional essential oils.

This week, pay extra attention to your feet. It not only feels great to be well-grounded, it is also the way to enjoy a very healthy and happy summertime.
