Integrative Therapies for Cancer

Debra’s Wellness Tips

The cancer statistics are staggering. A diagnosis can be terrifying. Treatments can be very unpleasant. As with everything in our lives, we must let ourselves be guided to the right things for us.

Even science is beginning to agree. Integrative Therapies for Cancer Care include things like acupuncture to alleviate nausea or pain from chemotherapy or radiation.

But new buzz words are popping up all the time. Complementary and Alternative is giving way to Integrative. The shift in language is indicative of a shift in understanding what really works.

If the term “Functional Medicine” is new to you, check it out. See more at: https://www.functionalmedicine.org/

Functional Medicine addresses the underlying causes of disease, using a systems-oriented approach and engaging both patient and practitioner in a therapeutic partnership. It is an evolution in the practice of medicine that better addresses the healthcare needs of the 21st century. By shifting the traditional disease-centered focus of medical practice to a more patient-centered approach, Functional Medicine addresses the whole person, not just an isolated set of symptoms. Functional Medicine practitioners spend time with their patients, listening to their histories and looking at the interactions among genetic, environmental, and lifestyle factors that can influence long-term health and complex, chronic disease. In this way, Functional Medicine supports the unique expression of health and vitality for each individual.

This week, see beyond any artificial limitations and educate yourself. Options exist. Encourage others to do the same.
