Improve Your Digestion

Debra’s Wellness Tips

In the November/December 2016 Massage Bodywork magazine, I read about a public service announcement “Time for Timer” that came on along with the Saturday morning cartoons in the 1970’s. From within the digestive system, he talked about fats, proteins, and carbs, and he sang “You are what you eat, from your head down to your feet.”

While this seems hokey by current standards, the message is still timely. Good digestion equals good health. (See the previous wellness tip: Probiotic Facts.)

Some unusual symptoms of poor digestion include bad breath, body odor, acne, brittle nails, anemia, and allergies. More commonly recognized symptoms include bloating after eating, erratic bowel movements, and lack of energy.

The causes of digestion difficulties can include:
• Dehydration
• Stress
• Bacterial Infection
• Nutritional Deficiency or Excess
• Poor Diet
• Chronic Medical Conditions
• Inflammation of the Digestive Tract

The Chopra Center offers these 6 Things to Improve Digestion: Meditate, move, don’t over eat, drink ginger tea, eat your largest meal at lunch, and release negative emotions.

Make sure you eat well and drink plenty of water. Address any serious conditions. Learn how to treat digestive difficulties with reflexology. (See: Modern Reflexology to Treat Digestive Problems.)

This week, pay attention to your digestion. We need to digest a lot of information on a daily basis. Make sure good gut health is part of your overall well-being.
