Headache Hit List

Whether classified as migraine, tension, sinus, “monthly”, or stress-related, how you can prevent or treat headaches naturally is welcome insight. Research is now showing you can choose foods that play a very significant role. Here is a list of some of the things that help:

  • Magnesium
  • Tryptophan
  • Quercetin
  • Vitamin E
  • Riboflavin

The way to think about all this is to know what benefits you are eating. For example, magnesium rich foods (great for blood pressure regulation) include nuts. Start preventing headaches by making almonds a regular part of your health regimen.

We most often think of Thanksgiving turkey when it comes to the essential amino acid tryptophan, but it is also found in fish so salmon is on our headache hit list, as well as grains and nuts. Tryptophan regulates serotonin, so it can also help with good sleep. Ah… You have to like the sound of that!

Cherries may be nature’s answer to aspirin. Along with other fruits (blueberries, grapes, apples), cherries contain quercetin and provide lots of anti-inflammatory properties. What a delicious way to regulate blood pressure.

Especially helpful are foods rich in Vitamin E. Some of the favorites include sunflower seeds, avocados, tomatoes, and peanuts for those without allergies to them. Natural peanut butter on celery stalks can be a wonderful choice for a healthy snack, and help to prevent headaches that are related to menstrual cycles.

Vitamin B (riboflavin) can be found in eggs, meat, and cheese. For those who are vegetarian or vegan, get the benefits from leafy greens.

This week, be diligent with your food choices. Remember that man does not live by bread alone, so start enjoying making healthy food choices that are big on this headache hit list.
