Going Raw

Debra’s Wellness Tips

“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” ~ Hippocrates

I love being a centrist when it comes to food. I am not a vegan, but I have some favorite vegan recipes. I am not a vegetarian, but I welcome meatless meals—for my health and for the health of the planet. The raw food movement is really intriguing because I personally know people who have recovered from very serious disease and illness eating raw.

The idea is that heating food destroys its nutrients and natural enzymes, which is bad because enzymes boost digestion and fight chronic disease. In short: When you cook it, you kill it. Some fans of raw food diets believe cooking makes food toxic. (WebMD)

If you want to, just dabble to start by checking out some of the great options on line.

One website I enjoyed visiting is Fully Raw by Kristina. Kristina’s inspiration came at the age of 18 when she was able to rid herself of hyperglycemia. She did this by eating nothing but a low-fat raw vegan diet consisting solely of fresh fruits and vegetables with few nuts and seeds. Her passion has allowed her to build an amazing business around raw foods, including a co-op. She is based in Houston, Texas.

“Imagine the day where you find complete confidence in your body, your choices, and in your life. Envision health, clarity, freedom, and self-love. When we are invigorated and inspired, we are living FullyRaw happy. When we are FullyRaw, we change the world.”—KRISTINA CARILLO BUCARAM

Not just fruit plates and veggie trays, today’s raw food menus are both beautiful and delicious.

This week, be open minded to the value of raw foods. There is no time like the present.
