Acid or Alkaline

While it may not be commonly known, a simple home test might be one of your greatest indicators of health or illness potential. The test costs around $10, and is readily available at pharmacies, online, and local stores. The test: a simple pH paper litmus strip!

A pH level between 7.35 and 7.45 (slightly alkaline) is considered to be optimal. Balance is the ideal, as below or above (even slightly so) is when symptoms and disease seem more likely.

Generally, it is considered optimum to have your diet consist of a 60/40 ratio of alkaline to acid forming foods. To recover from a health crisis, the alkaline intake is suggested to be 80 percent.

In addition to the simple test that can help you track your pH, it is helpful to learn which foods (including fruits and veggies) are acidifying. Along with things you would expect: meat, fish, dairy, eggs, poultry—you will find blueberries (we know blueberries also have great antioxidant properties), squash, cranberries, and corn on that list.

If pH as a wellness indicator is new to you, you might appreciate doing a bit of research of your own, such as this list of acid/alkaline forming foods.

This week, think about pH and how you can develop a healthy balance in all areas of your life.
