20 Ounces = 50 Minutes

A lot of information already exists about the reasons to avoid sodas. One recent article reported that those individuals who drank more sugar sweetened beverages exhibited shorter telomeres. This is very bad news because the shorter telomere length, the less a cell can regenerate. In fact, we are talking about increased risk of disease and possible early death.

Research shows the best way to get young people to change their soda-drinking habit was to show them what it takes to burn off the calories of a 20 ounce drink (250 calories). According to a CBS news article, it will take 50 minutes of running or 5 miles of walking to burn off a 20 ounce regular soda, sports drink, or fruit juice.

This week, think about whatever beverages you drink as adding to your overall well-being. It probably does not make good sense to give 50 minutes for 20 ounces….
